It is Innate Response mission to craft efficacious formulations to help harness the innate healing response that is within every patient. In the time-honored traditions of vis medicatrix naturae (the healing power of nature), we select only the most nourishing whole foods and botanicals.
Pregnancy and birth are natural processes that can be effectively supported with good nutrition, avoidance of unhealthy substances, adequate rest and moderate low-impact exercise. During pregnancy a woman’s hormones go through cycles that cause both physical and emotional changes. As her metabolism and biochemistry change, so do her nutritional requirements.
The importance of prenatal nutrition is widely recognized in scientific, medical and holistic circles. Most physicians and researchers now recommend supplementation. Research indicates that few American diets supply adequate levels of vitamins and minerals for both proper fetal development and nourishment for the mother to be. A growing fetus will pull the nutrition it needs from the mother’s supply, placing the mother’s nutritional needs second. A nutritious diet and supplement program can help support the health of the mother, reduce chances of non-genetic miscarriage, reduce chances of birth defects and can affect the health of the child throughout life.
Before the advent of vitamin and mineral supplements in the 1930’s, women used foods and herbs to support pregnancy and birthing. Midwives were often knowledgeable about the plants accessible to them and how to use them for many health conditions, including prenatal care. There are several traditional herbs that have been safely used as tonic and support herbs for pregnancy, birthing, lactation and postnatal care.
Those botanicals and whole foods carefully selected for use in Pre & Post Natal Trimester III & Post Partum are: Red Raspberry leaf (Rubus spp.), Chamomile flower (Matricaria recutita), Dandelion leaf & root (Taraxacum officinale), Alfalfa leaf (Medicago sativa), Barley Grass (Hordium vulgare), Blueberry fruit (Vaccinium corymbosum), and Cranberry fruit (Vaccinium macrocarpum). Some herbs are contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation. A list of those herbs is included with the references of this rationale.
It is important to remember that the form of the herb and the amount ingested are important safety factors. Whole tonic herbs in teas, as foods, as whole herb extracts and concentrates can be different than standardized extracts and isolated constituents of plants. Herbs such as Ginger and Turmeric are supportive in food quantities, but could potentially create problems when used in large, therapeutic amounts and isolated forms.
Never has it been more important for a woman to eat a well balanced, nutrient rich variety of whole foods and supplement with a FoodState® prenatal. With that in mind, Innate Response Formulas® offers two 100% TrueActive™ FoodState® formulas for pregnancy: Baby & Me™ Trimester III and Post and Baby & Me™ Trimester I and II. The primary difference is the use of tonic herbs in the Baby & Me™ Trimester III and Post formula. Baby & Me™ Trimester I and II does not include the tonic herbs for those who wish to create their own support program.
